PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

Our programme of events is twofold, winter and summer.

The winter programme comprises talks, normally given monthly on Wednesday evenings at Wilmslow Library from September to March, culminating in the Annual General Meeting. The meetings are notified to all members, who are welcome to bring guests. The programme for 2010-2011 is currently under preparation, and details will be posted on this site as soon as they are finalised.

The Coming of the Railway to Wilmslow and Alderley Edge
Wednesday 21 October, Wilmslow Library, 7.45 pm:Local expert Ian Foster explains how the line came down from Manchester and transformed two communities, with unique slides from his collection of historic illustrations and personal photographs.

Our New Local Government
Thursday, 26 November, Wilmslow Guild, 7.30 pm:
Cheshire East Councillor for Wilmslow South, Rod Menlove, who has been a driving force in the campaign for Wilmslow and Handforth to have a dedicated Town Council, explains what has been happening at Cheshire East, and considers the opportunities that a Town Council can offer us.

The Story of the Green Room Theatre in Wilmslow
Wednesday, 20 January, Wilmslow Library, 7.45 pm:
Sonia Dykstra draws on her compendious knowledge of the theatre, to show how it has entertained local audiences over the years and continues to do so at its Chapel Lane home.

Aspects of the History of Wilmslow Parish Church
Wednesday, 17 February, Wilmslow Library, 7.45 pm:
Birgitta Hoffman, who is engaged in a comprehensive history of St Bartholomew's,  reveals some of the interesting events and personalities involved in this, Wilmslow's oldest building.

After the usual business, we were addressed by a representative of the newly-constituted Civic Trust Initiative

July 27 Guided walk led by Anne Cobb viewing Macclesfield buildings of historic interest
August 18 Walk led by David Rutherford. Suggested venue in Anderton Lift/Maybury Country Park area
September 16

Special guided tour of Cholmondeley Castle and gardens.
Cost £12.50 per head, plus coach fare
